You MUST have passed your Theory Test before applying for your practical driving test.  The theory test has 2 parts - 50 multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test.  Click on the following links for more information.

The decision to book your test will be made as joint decision when both instructor and pupil consider the driving ability to be of an acceptable standard. 

You can book your driving test here: Driving Test.  Make sure you quote Ian's ADI number at the time of booking your test and let Ian know the date and time of your test straight away.

If there are any changes to your test date you must notify the school immediately.

If you do not keep up regular lessons after booking your test it will be assumed that your test is no longer going ahead.

On the day of your test you should bring:

• Your Provisional Driving License
• Theory Test Cerfiticate

You will be given a lesson before your test in final preparation.

When you arrive at the test centre we will wait for the examiner to start the test.  The examiner will check your licence and ask if you wish the instructor to be present during the test.

Before entering the car the examiner will ask you to read a number plate from 20.5m in good daylight.  You must be able to read a number plate from this distance before you can complete the test.

You will then be asked 2 show me/tell me vehicle safety questions before you drive.

You will then enter the car and the examiner will give you clear instructions in plenty of time.

The driving test will be assess your ability:

• to drive safely
• to follow road signs and markings
• to complete one reversing manoeuvre
• to drive independently
• to complete an emergency stop (not always in test)

The Driving Tests will last 40 - 45 minutes.

If you are completing an extended test this will last 70 minutes.

In order to pass the driving test you must have:

• no serious or dangerous faults
• no more than 15 minor faults
